NASA&#39s Additive Manufacturing Alloys for High Temperature Programs Webinar

Innovators at the NASA Glenn Analysis Heart have designed a new oxide dispersion strengthened medium entropy alloy (ODS-MEA) applying additive manufacturing (AM). ODS alloys, in which nano-scale ceramic particles are dispersed within the metal, had been originally created to enhance mechanical homes (e.g., creep resistance, tensile energy, microstructure integrity) at excessive temperatures. Thus, such alloys clearly show promise for metal factors of gas turbines, rocket engines, nuclear reactors, and other substantial-temperature apps. However, the conventional mechanical alloying method is extremely inefficient, time-consuming, and costly to create these kinds of alloys. By distinction, NASA’s ODS-MEA is intended for creation via selective laser melting. The alloy can be fabricated into advanced geometries and is resistant to tension cracking and dendritic segregation. When exposed to severe temperatures, it is not prone to deleterious period alterations and demands minimal article-processing.
